Today I have taken the pledge of authenticity. Realizing that I have a long way to go, I will work hard every day to be true to myself and to do what makes me really happy, regardless of what others may think is best for me. I will listen more attentively to my inner being and learn how to say "no" and not feel guilty about it. I will say "piss off" more often and feel good about it. I will dig in my heels when I feel I'm being pushed. I will try to be more honest about my feelings. I will strive to conquer my fears bit by bit and make more effort to step (or dance) outside my comfort zone. I know I am a work in progress, but I will get there, perhaps at a snails pace, but I will get there!

My next journey outside my comfort zone...I am seriously considering signing up for belly dance lessons.

  1. Mom, we are on the same wavelength. I've been thinking about this pledge of authenticity that I see in the blogosphere, and because of you I've decided to do it too. We can keep each honest!

And I 100% support the belly dancing! It's really one of my favorite things to do. Maybe someday we can dance together.

  2. Wish we could go together. I sent in my registration today so all I have to do now is show up. Now I have another excuse to go Frenchy shopping...maybe I will find something exotic to wear.

  3. Hi! Just visiting via Bret's blog. You will have fun bellydancing. I went to classes a while ago and loved it. Your hair in that previous post looks great by the way!

  4. ooh i love this post. i love what you said. i hope you don't mind if i copy that authenticity thing into a post of my own. it is something i've been working on most of my life, a very important thing to me. but it's definitely, as you said, a work in progress. it takes renewed commitment, sometimes daily. easy to slip back into old familiar and unhealthy patterns. thank you for this! :)
