Eat Your Brain Food...and get your flax too!

This looks like Blackened Haddock,
one of my favorite dishes to order in a restaurant,
but it's really just haddock which I coated with a mix
of ground flax seed and spices and fried in a little canola oil.
It was delicious paired with a Caesar salad.

Pond Watch

Water is the driver of nature.
~Leonardo da Vinci~

"The upholder of the cycles which sustain all Life is water. In every drop of water dwells a deity whom indeed we all serve. There also dwells Life, the soul of the primal substance - water - whose boundaries and banks are the capillaries that guide it, and in which it circulates. Every pulse beat arising through the interaction of will and resistance is indicative of creative work and urges us to care for those vessels, those primary and most vital structures, in which throbs the product of a dualistic power - Life"
Viktor Schauberger

There is something about water that has a drawing force compelling me to stop,
if only for a moment, to rest and meditate
....to muse about things past and present,
or to contemplate the future.
It doesn't have to be a sparkling pristine stream,
a babbling brook,
or a vast ocean of waves or tides to reel me in.
It can be a pool of water trapped between rocks after a summer rain,
or a scum covered pond dancing with insects
...food for what lies hidden beneath its surface.
There is something quieting and mysterious about a pond
...often stagnant, murky, and unimposing
... that makes one stop
and
watch
and listen.

NO LITTLE GUPPY

Kaiden, Caeden, Elliot and Kaidince

We haven't done much crafting lately, choosing instead to spend as much time outside as possible, so it was fun to stay indoors yesterday to make something special for Daddy for his special day.
This craft was simple to do for the little ones (1 1/2 - 2 1/2 year olds) To make, just fold a paper plate in half and cut out wedges until you have a fish shape. Write "Daddy, you're no little guppy to me!" on the back and have kiddies sign/scribble their name. On the front side use different colored bingo markers to paint stripes or dots to cover fish. (My kiddies love using bingo markers for crafts, they're so colorful and easy to use) Glue on a google eye and add a couple of squiggly lines of glue and shake on a little glitter to make them special.

And what goes hand in hand with fish...worms...and they were pretty tasty too. We made sure to save some to wrap as "fish food" to take home for Daddy.

To all the daddies out there, especially the new ones, "May your heart always be full and your tank never empty."

My favorite father quote:

When I was a boy of fourteen, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be twenty-one, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years. ~Mark Twain, "Old Times on the Mississippi" Atlantic Monthly, 1874

On my morning walk today, while tuned into CBC's Weekend Morning, I listened to Steve Goodman's song "My Old Man" sung by his daughter, which has this line: "I'd give anything to hear what he said when I wasn't listening, my old man." That goes out to anyone who no longer has their dad and wishes they could go back and relive it, this time paying more attention.
