A Great Day For The Lake

Today turned out to be a refreshing change from the heat of the past week
...a great day for either a bike ride along the trails,
or a trip to the lake for some kayaking
...and kayaking won out...hands down.

We packed a picnic lunch and headed to
where no one else goes.

...at least not today
...but the evidence was clear that others
 were there before us.

But for today we had our own little private island
 for swimming and a picnic.

We had a great afternoon on the water although
the water was choppy and a little scary when the waves hit the side of the kayak
...but we were safe
...we had on our life jackets.
I don't think I would ever be brave enough to try deep sea kayaking!!!

The real hazard was not the choppy water,
but hauling a kayak up a rocky embankment
while wearing wet water shoes.
One should know better,
but apparently,
age and wisdom do not always go hand in hand.

As luck would have it, my foot slipped on the rocks and I lost my balance,
the weight of the kayak pulling me backwards onto these rocks below.
Luckily, I landed on my side and my head didn't hit,
or it could have been a trip to the hospital.

I fared rather well, just a few scrapes and bruises, and a sore shoulder,
although I expect I'll be feeling more pain tomorrow.
I really need to smarten the **** up!
